Garvey Silver Band

Governing Rules

  1. The name of the Band shall be Garvey Silver Band
  2. The object of the Band shall be the advancement of the knowledge of music amongst the members and shall be non-sectarian and non-political.
  3. A Band President shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting.
  4. The business of the Band shall be conducted by a Committee consisting of Hon. Chairman, Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer and two members of whom shall be elected from the Band ranks. Three members to form a quorum.
  5. The trustees shall be the elected Chairman, Hon. Secretary, and the Band’s auditor.
  6. In the event of disbandment all properties, assets and liabilities of the Band shall be vested in the three trustees.
  7. Election of new members shall be decided by the Committee.
  8. A subscription of two pounds shall be payable weekly by all members over 18 years of age and any member being five weeks in arrears shall be notified accordingly by the Assistant Hon. Secretary and shall be dealt with at the discretion of the Committee. Members under 18 years of age shall pay twenty pence per week.
  9. a)    During practices or engagements all members shall be subject to the Conductor or, in his absence, to the Bandmaster.
    b)    On parade the turn-out and discipline shall be governed by the Drum Major and at no time may any member criticise or use unbecoming language towards the Conductor or any other member.
  10. Any member causing damage to the property of the Band shall be required to make good such damage, except the Committee shall consider the damage to have been caused by unavoidable circumstances.
  11. The accounts of the Band shall be audited annually by a competent auditor and the income and expenditure account published to members.
  12. The Band shall meet twice weekly for practice from 8:00pm to 10:00pm or as decided by the Committee. Members arriving late or absenting themselves from practices or engagements shall be dealt with at the discretion of the Committee.
  13. The Committee, on the advice of the conductor, may order such changes of instruments as they consider necessary for the improvement of the Band.
  14. No member may use Band property for purposes other than the requirements of this Band without sanction of the Committee.
  15. All members shall be required to sign on receipt of Band property and on ceasing membership shall be required to return the said property in the same good order and condition.
  16. The Band shall not be dissolved so long as six members are opposed to that course.
  17. No meeting of the Band Management Committee is to be held between the hours of 8:00pm and 10:00pm on Tuesday or Thursday or on any other evening when a rehearsal takes place, except in an emergency when no other course is open to the Committee. In this event the reason for the meeting must be explained to the Band present.
  18. Additions or alterations to these Rules shall only be considered at the AGM on Notice of Motion, which must be handed to the Hon. Secretary not less than two weeks prior to date of such meeting.
